Big Island Waterfowl

From Mallards and Canada geese next to the Platte River refuge in east central Nebraska, to the acres and acres of Snow geese that stage in the Rain Water Basins each spring, we strive to show hunters, from all over the country, that Nebraska truely is paradise to the Waterfowler. Hunts are done at the "Goose Pit", owned by Mike Olmstead. I guide hunts on this 25 acre pond, which is bordered on all sides by refuge. To the south, less than a half mile, is the Platte river; which is refuge for 20 miles east and west. To the North, North-West, and East are over 30 other lakes, all within 3 miles that cannot be hunted. This sets the stage for very relaxed birds that decoy extremely well. We will be hunting out of a 20 foot, heated, pit blind with all day hunting in mind. I will cook a "heart attack" breakfast shortly after the early morning flight. Lunch is up to you; but will say the local pizza place does deliver right to the blind. Walks to the blind are short, mud is never a problem, and waders are never needed. It really is as easy-going as it sounds.

Shell Creek Game Calls

Hi all, My name is Bill Rombach I am the owner of Shell Creek Game Calls. My experience in Waterfowling began at a early age of seven. With my father and my grandfather in the great rainwater basin in Nebraska we spent many hours duck hunting the marshes. Wielding a .410 shotgun I was never a huge threat to the ducks at that age however a lifelong love and pursuit of waterfowl was born. My father and our family did a lot of Duck hunting along the Platte River that makes its way through Nebraska.
At the age of Twelve my family moved to Ogallala Nebraska. My father built our home on the shores of Lake McConaughy, a lake 21 miles long and 3 miles wide. "Big Mac" as it is called was were I found my love of hunting Canada Geese. Most of our hunting was done on the vast sand beaches in horse tank pit blinds. When I was twelve I shot my first Canada Goose with my fathers Ithaca 10 Guage on the shores of Big Mac. Back then Henrieta Goose shells and resonate chamber Goose calls were the ticket.
After the resonate chamber calls me and my friends moved into the flute calls. We are all blowing short reeds now. I really don't know if they will ever build a better sound then what was started with the short reed designs. I will say after 30 years of Waterfowling I have seen a lot of changes and learned a lot. I love getting out so I can learn more. Thank you for visiting our site The field staff and myself are vailable for any questions you may have about our calls. Good hunting and be safe.
