Hello everyone. I have gotten my fall permit. This will be my first turkey hunt ever. I am in central NE near G.I. I will probably be hunting mostly public land near the Platte, since I don't know any land owners. So I am looking for any help; stratagies, calls, decoys, blinds, etc. what ever info I need to have a successful hunt. Thanks for any help.

Fall turkey is a lot like sneaking around like a sniper (more so than spring I think). The birds are constantly on the move and you have to be able to maneuver around them. IME, calling helps some but beyond making them a little more comfortable doesn't do a lot to draw them in...you;ve got to put the move on them.

i really don't change a heck of alot from spring to fall. i've called in 95% of my fall birds over the last 15 years or so. just not the love sick, but more of the social type calling. i believe the key is scouting. find where they are and the area they move in and hang out in. get in either one of those and a little calling with some deeks will usually bring a hen in and the flock will follow. i've busted flocks up before. seems to work best for me to sit down right where you busted them up and wait a little. then do some kee kee type calling. (basically young and mother calling back and forth to relocate each other) but yes, stalking is also an option. thing is in the fall you are sneaking on a bunch of birds as opposed to a few in the spring. more eyes. spend as much time as you can. it'll work.

scout and stalk is how I have down it the past few years. If stalking is not an option, just get in front of them on one of their 'paths' and let them come to you. The turkeys I hunt in the fall are always on some sort of a schedule. There will always be times they do not follow their daily habits, but you can usually find a few that do. Good luck.

I would say find the tree they are roosting in and find out were they are going to feed and sit and wait for them. Ambush is one of the best way to get your birds in the fall.
