The muskrat steps on the pan, there is a slight hesitation and the keeper spring goes forward and keeps the muskrat from chewing and getting out of the trap. Tom

oh! Ok thank you for the info. Would you recommend those for muskrat trapping or will normal foot traps work. I have a few longspring #1's I was thinking of using. I just recently got into trapping water animals so I am a little green. I only caught one muskrat last year and it was by accident. I caught him in a 280 conibear I had set on a beaver slide. He was so small that he only got caught by the back legs and his tail. Other than that I know little about trapping them.

The #1 has caught more rats than probabaly anyother trap. Run it down a drowner or around a tangle stake. With that being said, if you have a lot of coon working the same area, the 1 1/2 coil might be a better choice. Maybe use the #1 on a floating set where the chance of a coon lessons somewhat. Tom
