Long spring like the name says has a spring extending from one (single long spring) or both sides (double long spring).

Coil spring spring traps have the springs "coiled" under the jaws of the the trap and attached to the frame with a piece of heavy wire.

Either style of trap if the correct size, will take the intended target animal. The coil springs are more "convenient" as they bed a little faster thus allowing you to get more steel out in less time. For holding power the double long spring is as good as most coil springs if you practice bedding the trap.

We discussed the size of trap for the intended target animal previously (trapping terminology, page two of the archives). So it boils down to your budget, the availability you have to used traps, and personal preference. I use both styles of traps and catch all of the above listed critters in them.

Oh and hopefully I don't create monsters, just good ethical trappers...LOL Tom
