| Well yrs ago i used to take a roll of 11 gauge wire and some rebar stakes and bags for rocks. Wire pliers and lure, Axe and small hand saw. Not to mention packing in traps for the sets as well. Now my beaver trapping situation is quite different. I have a drowner rig attached to trap and on the drowner rig there is and anchor for setting the top of drowner in the mud bank. I still pack a small saw. Now can you see the way my trapping has been transformed since the coming of age of the cable and the anchor systems of today. My pack basket is about 30 to 40 pounds lighter than it used to be. And with the onset of the infirmities of age setting in these new age materials couldn't have come along at a better time. No more packing a role of heavy gauge wire. I will cut enough wire for each rig and put it on the cable rig attached to trap. I don't have to pack the heavy wire pliers of old. I carry a leather man on my belt. I don't have to pack a bunch of bags around in the pack basket anymore. I don't have to carry the rebar t stakes anymore. When i reach a location where i want to set a foot hold with the drowner rig i just reach in the pack basket and pull out the trap which all ready has the drowner and anchor attached. I then find a limb pole laying around strong enough to wire the drowner to. And in a pinch i will use a green pole. Then undo the wire i cut prior to leaving home from the drowner rig and wire the drowner cable to the pole on the end that goes into the muddy bottom. Then i will take the anchor setter and sink the anchor that is all ready attached to the drowner into the bank. The push the pole in the muddy bottom. Then pull the pole down to the bank and stake it in place with a cable stake with a adjust able top loop. Now how hard was that. It is getting easier to set these types of traps today vs what it used to be like. Trapping has changed with all the new devises and ideas that are being shared. Below is a picture of the rig set up on a number 4 Blake and lamb Jump trap. ![]() Now how simple is that for trapping beaver!!!!!!!

| Don't get much faster than that. Tony, do you have any problem with the critter pulling the bank disposable stake? We have a lot of sand here and that was a big problem for me this year...Tom

| My banks are more mud than any thing the anchor is four inches long and holds well in the black bank mud we have. I wouldnt recomend any type of cable anchor for sandy soil. Just a strong long stake.

| yep I use 30 inch minimum on the down side and usually 30 in on the bank end...Tom

| tmrschessie 30 " works for really sandy soil? I have been using drags. I am trapping on a sandpit . I wasnt sure stakes would hold. That is good to know. |
| ||||
| Watch out....that sand is not compacted like the river bank I trap....If it is loose sand you may have to double stake. Then I would even check that . I trapped a sand pit a few years ago that I used logs to anchor my sets...

| been snaring them with the snare attatched to a railroad tie. It has been working so far. I was just curious cause I ran a stake to see and I was able to pull it out way to easy for my liking . Thanks for the info! Mike |

| If you want a great sand anchor let me interject this. If you get a lid from a five gallon bucket. Then take a 1/2 inch eye bolt with a 2 inch washer and put this set up on the center of the bucket. Attach this to trap with cable or chain. Bury the lid at least 2 ft deep in the sand. This is the best sand anchor around.

| Tony, you obviously like to work at it more than I do LOL...I will head to the tree line...But thanks for the lid explanation. I know a guy in SD that uses just the lid like a POGO in the mud he deals with on his line. Tom

| Well its like this if its a great location and you have the oportunity to snag quite a few animals and you dont want to have to worry about lossing a great catch or nice trap a little extra work like that will ease your mind. LOL I do work hard dont I. LOL

Beaver where all snared or 330 in 5 days. The snared beaver where on a slide rode. Then there was another year that we hit it hard trapped 3 rivers in Ne. Used the same slide rod's and used 5/8 rebar kill poles and thay worked fine. The beaver where waiting for us in the morning siting on the bank. The beaver where cut up a little bit. But this allowed us to get more set out. Drowing the beaver, then it is out of site so all the other beaver that pass by don't bite the beaver on the bank. We cleaned house. |

| Taz, once you type your post you can click on the "preview post" button and see your post before you send it. Are you using photobucket to hold your pictures? If you store them on your computer just click on "Go Advanced" scroll down and click on "manage attachments" A new screen will appear, open it full size. You will click on "browse". Then go to where you have them stored on your computer and highlight the photo you want and click "Open" Then click "upload".... When you have your picture or pictures uploaded close the window. Your picture will appear as a thumbnail when you "Preview Post" your post. Click on it and it will become full size. Once you do this a couple times it will not seem as difficult. If this old dinosaur can figure it out, I am sure your can. Tom
