Default The number 11 bridge set for coon

The first pic shows the location of a trap set i had last season. So i will use the same location for the set up. I will be using a duke no.11 double long spring trap in this set up. and using egg shells for a scent and bait. This is a natural corridor for the coon and mink. This is what i call the critter super highways.

The second pic is a little dark but what i have done is i dug out the old trap bed and packed new dirt in the bottom for the long spring 11 to set solid. The set i had here last season i had set with a no1 coil spring.

Pic no 3 shows were i have placed the dirt around the jaws and covered the long spring. Then i packed the dirt around the jaws making the set sit tight in the bed.

The 4th pic shows were i have block the set down to force the mink or coon to the jaws of trap. i used material all ready available at the site of the setup. This being concrete chunks.

The 5th pic show the trap has been sifted with fine dirt. And all large objects that could be caught in the jaws of trap have been removed. Then the egg shells have been added for there smell and sight appeal to the set. Now the set is done the dirt has been spread out shells added and blocking to force the animal in. This is a great set for coon mink and fox. which i took 2 fox 1 mink and 27 coon from this exact spot last yr.

I hope this is good info for those looking to use there no 11 traps this season. thanks for looking DH Here is a picture of the final set at the other end of bridge.

Just remember folks, no exposed bait within 30 feet of a dryland set in Nebraska. Tom

Yep and not a problem Tony, we have users here from several different states. So the bottom line to all is ....

CHECK YOUR LOCAL REGULATIONS FOR LEGALITY IN YOUR AREA....

Thanks again Tony. ....Tom

I'm getting some ideas!!

What was the purpose of using that particular trap??

What other traps would work?

You might want to "smear" some sweet bait on the rock or the bridge wall.
A lot of coon trappers like the smaller jaw spread of the #11 trap. The coon can not work his foot in the narrow gap.

Here you go.. Tom

It is unlawful to use any baits in plain
sight within 30 feet of foothold traps set
on dry land. Bait is defined as fish, animal
flesh, fur, hide, entrails or feathers.

It is on page 18 of the hunting regulations.

I believe egg shells are legal in Nebraska. HOWEVER if trapping under a bridge, it needs to be privately owned.

That is correct, there is no trapping in the right of way in Nebraska at this time. You may be correct on the egg shells but I will talk to the Game Warden and find out for sure, suggest you do the same so there are no problems...Tom
