As this came up on another post and I know some of you may run into a skunk....I thought I would post this link. It has the real remedy if you do get hit with skunk essence, plus is a very informitive site. Tom

Far be it from me to argue... At the same time, the "spray mechanism" and the "spray" are available to us all, it is known as the bladder function. Skunks have a further developed facilty for stronger smell, but it is still Urine. b). Urine is full of salts and tends to be alkaline. Tomato juice (or vinegar or lemon juice) may have organic acids that can neutralize these alkalines. This is going to "cut" the smell and change the chemicals some. With the "mild" tomatoes bred today, I doubt if they would make as much difference. Abundant water, as recommended, will dissolve and remove the salts. The vinegar and tomato juice that are so praised are things that great grand pa might have had around the place. Ask him for peroxide and he might say "what is that." (Or bleach). Today we have progress and best of all, can, train the dog to avoid the problem... !!

the mixture works. I have had to use it 3 times this year on hounds that have been sprayed. Takes the smell right off.
