    Default Green Diamond Tourny

Ok, new to the forum as well to the tournament game. Been bowfishing for a few years now but had my first tourny experience at the carporama tourny. Was alot of fun, my buddy and I are planning on going up to the green diamond but wanted to make sure we had the boat for it. Its a 14' john with a 20 horse motor on it. Had alot of issues (mostly drive times) at the river portion of carporama and was curious what the river is like at this one. Havent been up to the northern parts for quite a few years (nor have I bowfished them) so was curious if thats enough motor to make it work as i will not have time to scout first. Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Also we will be camping for two nights pulling out on sunday so is there a camp ground around there that we could use. Other wise a place to park the truck and sleep in the bed or boat.

    Thanks,

    Joe

Your boat will be just fine up there. I have run a 16 foot flat bottom with a 25 hp up there for years with no trouble. There are alot more sand bars and hazards to be aware of but nothing to be worried about. There is a campground at the St. Helena Boat ramp. You can leave your rig there and pitch a tent. It's primitive but it works. Also there is camping all over around the dam at yankton. It's a bit more of a drive but not bad at all. Come on up it should be a blast!

I agree, you have plenty of boat for that part of the river.

If you are in 5 foot of water up there, you are in the channel in many places. It is wide and sandy and shallow. You kinda have to learn how to read the river to stay off the sandbars, but you will figure it out easy enough. If nothing else, get behind somebody and follow them.

Many of us will be camping at the St. Helena ramp - there is one electrical outlet, so it is kinda hit or miss as to ability to plug in. I have a power strip on my boat, so that should help this year.

You'll be fine. If you want to go out at all before the tourney just let me know. I'll take you out in my boat so you can get a feel for the area. Most of the guys will be at the campground at St. Helena Just east of the Green Diamond bar where checkin/weighin will be. I would suggest staying there so you can enjoy the social aspect. If you guys need power I will loan you a generator to charge batteries.

I think there was 12 or 13 boats last year which was the first year, so I would expect a few more this year.

Porter has the St. Helena ramp and Brooky Bottoms confused, but none-the-less that is where we will likely be. St. Helena ramp is about 5 miles north of the town of St. Helena

You guys have more info on the tourny ( a flyer or something ) there are a couple guys I know around Lincoln that may want to make the trip up with us?
I could post something up in Scheels. Prizes pretty comparable to carp-o-rama river portion?

Here you go Joe. Post them anywhere and everywhere. I've got a bunch in the Hartington area and an ad going in the norfolk, yankton and vermillion shoppers.

Maybe try an ad in the Douglas County Post Gazette? I don't know how much it would cost but I know a lot of people get it. Would cover West Omaha, Elkhorn, Valley, Bennington and Gretna areas. Send me a copy of the flyer and i'll post one up at my place of employment.

Yeah. I have talked to a couple guys and put it up at a few places. Hope to get some hits. Would be nice to get a good number of people out. Anyone around the Yankton SD Area? That would be another good place to do some advertising. Bars, gas stations, est. last time I was up there was alot of people shooting around there.
