LW- Are my intentions so obvious? Well, I'll have to check things out as far as comfort. Ya see, rifles aren't allowed in IN for deer hunting. So, I didn't even get my first rifle until in my 20's. That was just a cheap single shot NEF handi rifle for popping coyotes and varmints. I haven't even fired a bolt action in 13 years. I've always been partial to Remingtons, but the Savages seem a bit friendlier on the budget and would allow for more $ to be spent on optics. BTW, I already have the scope selected for the new unnamed rifle. Optics and shotguns I know.

Here is one for you guys. I live in a town of almost 8000 people in Nebraska and can't find .270 ammunition. That is why I would vote for the 30-06. Usually can find this ammo even at Casey's gas stations. I love my .270 but I would go 30-06 just for ammo availability everywhere.

I have the 270, 308 and 30-06; got the 30-06 first because I believe it’s truly capable of hunting all big game in North America. Ammo is always available in a wide selection. Now with that said my father was a 270 shooter and he used the same arguments that I just used; he later went on to fall in love with the 6.5 x 55; he said it had a more mild recoil than all above. I think if you went with any of the rounds everyone has listed you’re going to do just fine.

Your dad is right about the 6.5 swede. They are a very nice shooting caliber.
