    Default Need Trainer

Hey everyone. I'm new to dog training and new to the forums. I'm moving from Indiana to Nebraska next month. I have a 2yo GSH. Long story on her, but I got her for free and she's a very skittish dog.

I need a good trainer who is patient and likes to make the training FUN for the dog. Her current trainer is that way and I want to continue in that vein because I enjoy watching how excited she is in the field. Anyone have a recommendation? Oh, I will be with her at every session, so the closer to Lincoln, the better.

    Thanks in advance!

Chad is a great guy. My father has a pup from him and she is deadly on quail. I don't know if he has any openings and he does not take alot of dogs on.

I have not used him as a trainer, but it might be worth the call.

    Good Luck

Just an FYI but most or some trainers do not like the owner there for training sessions all the time, it is distracting for the dog. Just my .02 but I hope you find what ya want ?

For a GSH I would recommend www.pheasantbonanza.com they have a good facility for working with that breed and Trent is a good trainer

Andrew: Thanks, I'll check out the website.

LW: I know some don't. Her obedience is done. This is just basically training us (her and I) to work together in the field. Currently, I take her once a week to work live birds. The rest we do at home. I wish I could afford more or to do a full training regiment, but it's not in the budget now.

If she is obedient and listens to you that is great !! That is half the battle, and that is also great that she is working with live birds as much as you/she can, it will really help build her confidence. Seems to me you are on track with a good program ? Maybe enter her in some pheasant hunt championships ? they are cheap to try and fun, also you get to meet many good people that would know much about your breed and more helpful in the long run ? Good Luck !

LW: She's been a great dog especially for a give away. She's spoiled, but she listens. I've never really had any interest in field trials, but you're right, maybe it's a good way to network and learn more about training a dog. I hope she's close to ready to hunt by the time the season rolls around.
