    Default New line?

I'm looking at trying some different "smaller diameter" line this year in the 8-10 lb range for walleyes, and 14 for bass. (I fish a lot of weightless plastics for bass) Any suggestions?
Any thoughts on Fireline crystal,....Power Pro?

I like fire line in 10 lb. What are your thoughts on braided lines? I prefer braided when jigging for bass.

Flatcoats is obsessed with power pro. I have liked fireline in the past but am prob. going to switch to power pro this year. I think flatcoats works for them or something

if they'd pick me up i'd work for em
in all honesty, ive fished with quite a few braids, and i believe power pro is your smoothest casting braid around. plus i think you could pull your boat under before you'd break off 14lb power pro...5lb is perfect for jigging for eyes. it has about a 1lb diameter, but probably takes about 15lbs of force to actually break it.

try it, and i really dont think you'll go back to any other braid

I'm gonna have a couple reels spooled with 14# Fireline Crystal this spring for the first time...plus the usual couple with 4# mono, probably a couple more each of 6 and 8# mono.

I've seen times where walleye seemed to avoid the dark colored braids...I'll never use it again for spring walleye jigging without a mono or flouro leader. On a failed attempt a couple springs ago, it seemed no fish would bite the fireline rod...the smallies would bite it I guess, but the walleye ignored it completely. Not even the small ones would bite it, though the mono rod got bit all day.

I have been enjoying the use of my Fireline smoke. Seems to be a bit more sensitive on the light bites the walleyes tend to offer. Haven't tried crystal myself, but know a couple people that have and aren't impressed. I have used Power Pro and will say it's good, but I personally don't like the feel.

The only braid I have used was Spiderwire original (once) and it went in the trash upon returning home. I'm hoping to find one in the 12-14 lb. range with cast-ability and sensitivity for fishing light weight plastics....and fishing them weightless.

I'll probably follow Eric's lead on rigging for walleyes.

    walleye-leader

    bass- nah

i always run a leader on braid for eyes... even with a swivel you still have more feel than with all mono, let alone if you tie line to line..

whisker, if your planning on throwin light weight plastics or weightless, im assuming for bass, i would use power pro. tie it right to the hook and fish.. thats how i have had sucess..

You will be impressed with the crystal, I use it on most setups (14lb trolling, leader for lead, slip bobbers, 6lb jigging,)

Not a fan of Power Pro at all, it doesn't hold my leadcore knot

that is the only thing i've experienced negative w/ power pro.....you do have to do some trial and error with they type of knots you use......i had about an 8lb largemouth hit me on a spinner bait about 15ft away....went to set the line, and nothing...haha....that won't happen again, I promise!

Fireline & Silverthread. For a copolymer, Silver Thread casts well, is tough enough & has little memory. Its also somwhat smaller dia although not as small as the braids. 6-8lb for jigging walleye, works great & is breakable, for snags in the rocks, without tearing up your gear like many braids will do. #14 Fireline casts like a breeze out of my energys & prodigy reels. I live to cast it out for a northern. I backed it with a little #17 Silverthread, & I'm ready for buisness. Thats all I use.
Mind if I shoot anyway? Makes me feel good!

I have basically switched over to mostly Power Pro. I had excellent luck with it this past fall on walleye and crappie. I will still use some mono in some cases but most will be PRO!!
