| Strongly disagree, This one came to me the other day, puts it a little more into perspective who is shafting us...Tom My brother Robert worked in D.C. for a firm that helped companies and other entities present their views on public policy issues with printed materials, speeches and congressional testimony. The pictures below are some of the ones he used on behalf of his client (not these exactly as these were forwarded to me from a friend who did not identify the source). His client was the International Brotherhood of Teamsters. Their headline was "If you care about Mother Earth, you should support opening ANWR." They went on to explain in detail about the methods and care taken to protect the environment while drilling for the energy that is the lifeblood of our economy –and way of life. I was surprised, too. -Geo FIRST… do you know what ANWR is? ANWR = Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. Now… A comparison ![]() And some perspective… ![]() NOTE WHERE THE PROPOSED DEVELOPMENT AREA IS… (it's in the "ANWR Coastal Plain") ![]() THIS IS WHAT THE DEMOCRATS, LIBERALS AND "GREENS" SHOW YOU WHEN THEY TALK ABOUT ANWR …and they are right… these ARE photographs of ANWR ![]() ![]() ![]() ISN'T ANWR BEAUTIFUL? WHY SHOULD WE DRILL HERE (AND DESTROY) THIS BEAUTIFUL PLACE? … … WELL… THAT'S NOT EXACTLY THE TRUTH Do you remember the map? The map showed that the proposed drilling area is in the ANWR Coastal Plain Do those photographs look like a coastal plain to you? WHAT'S GOING ON HERE? ….. ….. ….. ….. …. … THE ANSWER IS SIMPLE… THAT IS NOT WHERE THEY ARE WANTING TO DRILL! THIS IS WHAT THE PROPOSED EXPLORATION AREA ACTUALLY LOOKS LIKE IN THE WINTER ![]() AND THIS IS WHAT IT ACTUALLY LOOKS LIKE IN THE SUMMER ![]() ![]() ![]() HERE ARE A COUPLE SCREEN SHOTS FROM GOOGLE EARTH ![]() ![]() AS YOU CAN SEE, THE AREA WHERE THEY ARE TALKING ABOUT DRILLING IS A BARREN WASTELAND. OH… AND THEY SAY THAT THEY ARE CONCERNED ABOUT THE EFFECT ON THE LOCAL WILDLIFE… HERE IS A PHOTO (SHOT DURING THE SUMMER) OF THE "DEPLETED WILDLIFE" SITUATION CREATED BY DRILLING AROUND PRUDHOE BAY *… DON'T YOU THINK THAT THE CARIBOU REALLY HATE THAT DRILLING? ![]() HERE'S THAT SAME SPOT DURING THE WINTER. ![]() HEY, THIS BEAR SEEMS TO REALLY HATE THE PIPELINE NEAR PRUDHOE BAY *… ![]() *The Prudhoe bay area accounts for 17% of U.S. domestic oil production NOW, WHY DO YOU THINK THAT THE DEMOCRATS ARE LYING ABOUT ANWR? REMEMBER WHEN AL GORE SAID THAT THE GOVERNMENT SHOULD WORK TO ARTIFICIALLY RAISE GAS PRICES TO $5.00 A GALLON? WELL… AL GORE AND HIS FELLOW DEMOCRATS HAVE ALMOST REACHED THEIR GOAL! NOW THAT YOU KNOW THE TRUTH, WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO ABOUT IT? YOU CAN START BY FORWARDING THIS TO EVERYONE YOU KNOW… SO THAT THEY WILL KNOW THE TRUTH.

| Yes. In what ways do you think drilling in this tiny area would benefit the US? Would it make a big enough impact to be worth it? If the oil companies have to do exploratory drilling to see if oil is even in the area (like they don't want to do on their leased land)and they don't have access to this area, how do they know oil is there? All serious questions I don't have the answers to.

| Notice how close it is to prudhoe bay, let your imagination run and think how much would it cost to run a pipeline from the new site to there and ship it out... swanson this is not about our president. Tom

| Ship it out to China you mean. High sulfur crude that gets refined in countries that do not have environmental standards. We do not refine high sulfur crude into gasoline in our country-only sweet and light sweet is refined for gas here. Now we do have a large deposit of very light sweet crude here in the fields of SD,ND and up into Canada locked in limestone and hard to retrieve but we are figuring it out and in my opinion this is where we should spend our time and money. this is only my opinion and as always it is the only one that counts Goose Last edited by goose133; 07-18-2008 at 06:53 PM. |

| Well why not build a refinery that will handle what we bring up? Since we need new refiners anyhow. Why pay anyone to do anything, that is what has gotten us where we are. Tom

| The cost involed with refining high sulfur crude into gas makes it unattractive to big oil in the US. Lots of contaminates that have to be properly disposed of. In China they can just dump it on the ground. Believe me Tom I am with you on this but I think the greatest country in the world can find a way to do it right. Goose |
