Default Trolling motor question

We have an aluminum v-bottom bass tracker bass boat we use for bowfishing and are in need of a new bow mount trolling motor. Because of the v-bottom, it probably needs to be a foot control.

Looking for brand and model recommendations. Or if you just want to throw out what you use and if you would buy that same one again, that would be great.

Thanks guys.

Steve

I am just curious why it needs to be a foot control? Certainly not arguing with your assesment, just wondering what it was about the boat that made you come to that conclusion?

Are you going to / Do you have a shooting deck of any kind (raised or not raised) on the front?

Here is an article from the Iowa Bowfishing Association website. Lots of good info on trollers.

YELLLAB - It's an older bass tracker and there is a raised section on the bow beyond the front platform that would require a person to lean forward a ways to steer with a hand control. Or to step on the raised section that can get a little slick.

At this point we do not have a raised platform beyond the normal platform that is part of the boat

Thanks for the link. Good information in there.

NEHONKERS - Thanks for your input on minn kota's power drives.

stay away from the minkota edge. I would definately go with something that is cable drive so you can get it in and out of the water real fast. Just a jerk of the cord and it's up on the deck and not smashing into logs. I would probably gow with minkota maxium if I could do it over again for a foot control.

I have a minn kota power drive v2. It s a foot control with the option of adding a co-pilot, which is a (cordless) remote contol from anywhere in your boat. Plus you can have up to 10 different remots for your co-pilot so if your busy landing your fish, your buddy can run the boat off of his remote.

We hook ours on our belt loop. The only problem I've experinced is when I give my partner their remote and they bend over to land a fish or whatever they sometimes accidently push a button.

It comes with 1 remote but you can buy extras for $50 for your friends.

Wish I would have takin the advice here, bought a MinnKota Edge, brand new out of the box, only 1 rev. speed worked, and 2, 4(which felt like the same) and 5 speed worked on forward, biggest piece-o-sh!t. Returned that pile today and went with a motorguide.

minnkota powerdrive v2 with copilot and autopilot. best thing ever invented for bowfishing. you can use a foot control, remote, or set the autopilot to follow a straight line, depth, or bottom feature and it will automatically adjust direction and speed for wind, current, etc.
i have the 55lb version on the bow of my bassboat and it kicks a$$!
