Default Trolling Motors with Universal Sonar

The wife took my V2 Minkotta back for me today and I am debating on what I should get next. The last 2 I have had, I end up with problems in the US. 1st one the whole sonar went out on me and the 2nd had problems with the temp sensor. Has anyone else had these problems or is it something in the newer units that hasn't been fixed yet? I am thinking about just going up to a Terrova without the US and buying a puck. I just won't be able to run my vexilar off the bow anymore unless I get a puck for it too. Can I fit 2 pucks on the motor?

Thanks,

I run a 65lb Powerdrive AP and haven't had any issues yet. Only ran it for one season though.

My MK PD doesn't want to turn right all the time. It jams up somehow. The sonar works fine though. As far as adding your flasher, I would think an aftermarket mount is in order for the puck. Something you can add on like a Johnny Ray. You won't be able to run your other bow sonar at the same time though. They will interfear with each other. You may possibly interfear with other sonar mounted off the back of the boat as well. I was lucky & can run both at the same time. I have a Bottom Line with the puck mounted off the back of the boat & an Eagle off the MK.

I think I am going to stick with the US one more time. If I have problems with it this time around then I will give something else a try. I just like the fact that I can switch to my vexilar in a second if I need to. I am going to upgrade to the terrova I think. Not sure if I will like the foot pedal on the terrova though.

I'm not to found of the foot pedal either, took some getting use to. I would like to find a co-pilot for mine. Cabelas told me they can't even order co-pilots for the Powerdrives anymore. The auto pilot really makes up for the pedal, once it's set there's very little adjusting

You might want to get the co-pilot, I have been really happy with mine.

The Boat Dock in Grand Island has a bunch of Co-Pilots for the new Terrova's and I believe he has some left over from the PD's. Just give Doug a call and he will have one set aside for you.

I put the US/AP Terrova on the Tuffy. As far as the foot pedal goes, I am super pleased. I thought that the PD's pad was far from user friendly. The Terrova pad has nice big controls and they are placed where they are easy to use.

The wire you have to run to the x-ducer on a non-US Minn-Kota is a major PITA if you've never run one. I have a US Terrova and know a couple guys who have them on AP's. They all work fine. Maybe we're just lucky?

I ended up just ordering a V2 with AP. Figured I better save a little money now that I am down in the back and not sure how that is going to turn out.

I just picked up the 50lb. V2 for my Jon boat. I'll get the co-pilot before ice out!
