Default hanging deer til processing.

I've started wrapping the back legs and tenderloins in plastic wrap til i process to keep the meat from drying out. that's a little trick i use so i don't have to cut off the dried and waste any meat.

After processing 7 deer this year, i've managed to not get any better at skinning though. i totally suck at that.

Do you age the deer for any amount of time?

Cool Golf ball

My friend cuts the skin back abit behind the neck and puts a golf ball under skin and ties a rope around the skin thats around the ball. He then pulls down and yanks the skin right off take about 3 mins. I seen a video with the same thing just they used 2 trucks.

The method Ice talks about works well but is time consuming and fun. It is a lot easier to skin the deer by hanging it by the head. Chop off all for legs just above the elbows and knees, cut slits in the remaining parts of the skin between elbow and knees to the open cavity. Then cut around the neck, and start pelling and cutting. Once you get it below the front shoulders you can just pull down it will come right off. I can skin a deer by my self in about two min. doing this method. The quartering and straps take about another 3 min. I guess it is how you are raised and what you are used to, but it takes a lot longer in my opinion when you hang them by their hind legs.

PS. Make sure that before you cut hind legs off that you break the pelvis by grabbing both hind lgs and bring them together on the back side of the deer, makes getting Hind quarter off easier.

Default aging

I do not age any deer i shoot. they are usually processed within the next day to give them time to cool and firm up so the meat is easier to cut. I suck at skinning and tried the hanging by the neck and the back legs and i still butcher that hide. guess i'll have to practice more before i can get a hide that's worth tanning.

I am hunting for my first time this year. Not sure if I could do the feild dressing myself. is there somewhere near Omaha that I could take the deer to get procesed, what would be the cost? Will they do the capping as well? Any good taxidermist near Omaha?
Thanks!

Did anyone see the new device called the "Butt Out" or the "Deerriere"?

I bought one last year and tried it out........It works great for field dressing makes it fast and cleaner.. I highly suggest picking one up. Follow the directions on the back instead of using a string to tie it off use a cable tie.

We do what Ice was talking about, did it last year for every deer we took and made it a snap. We just back the four wheeler up with it tied to it and it peels back like butter. Takes all of 5 minutes to skin a deer with no hair left on the hide which is the part I really like about it.

I do. I skin it up side down get the hide down past the front quarters, chop the neck with a corn knife and then quarter and loin it out.

the butt out deer tool is ridiculous. i've never had a problem using my methods, but i'm getting out of practice since there are no more deer and i can't shoot any since they appear to be on the brink of extinction.....or HIDING IN THE FREAKIN CORN AND NEVER WILL COME OUT!!!!!
