Default 2008 Rut

For you local Nebraska folk just curious when you think the peak of the rut will be this year. Being from out of state I have had an opportunity to hunt in Nebraska for the last four years and still trying to learn how to hunt there. It looks like there will be a full moon during rifle season this year. I am trying to decide to go (bow hunting) either the first or second week of November but the moon is what is really bothering me. Curious to hear what you guys have to say.

Rob

Hard to go wrong with scheduling time off during the second week of November, hunt with rifle or archery gear which ever one is open at the time.

I will be on the river west of Kearney the second week of Nov. that has always been a great bow hunting week for me. But really anytime from the middle of oct thru the blackpwder season has been good for seeing big bucks on the river for me.

Looks like Im the only guy that likes the first week in November. I like that period because the bucks are out chasing doe's checking all the areas where he knows doe's bed. That second week in November your getting into the peak rut, and the bucks start to lock down with a doe in heat.

I agree. I love the first week of November. Bucks in Southeast NE are cruising a lot more area that week for does. and start to lock down shortly after 2 week. You can go from seeing a ton of movement to hardly any in one weeks time. i know the first week is safe from that happening!

My best bucks have all been shot around the 7th of November. I don't gun hunt much any more. This bow season should be interesting as the season runs through 14th. I will break up my vacation time to cover Nov. 5,6,7 and 12,13,14.

Nah..I'm with ya. Love it from Halloween through first week of Nov. Looking back in the journals, most my buck kills have occurred from Nov 1-8th. Dudes are cruising hard lookin for a new lady friend.

The rut is still ever present all the way to and through rifle of course but I've had less luck getting him to leave the doe once he finds her. Can catch his attention for a minute but I am at the mercy of her leading him into range. Like it when they are searching...that's when action is fast and furious and you better be on your toes....

I think I might end up with a fun rutting season. Beings I have W,Th and F I'm hoping the public lands won't be so crowded and maybe I'll get a few shots of some rutters.
